Mad, bad or sad? The Psychology of Personality Disorders – Professor Glenn D Wilson
Personality disorders are a contentious issue in psychiatry. How many are there and how reliable is their diagnosis? Are we just medicalising bad behaviour and social inadequacy. How should medical and criminal justice sectors divide responsibility? The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/mad-bad-or-sad Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. http://www.gresham.ac.uk

Marta Twardowska says:

man called Ted Bundy  was a special FBI agent, who worked in jail and probably was tortured by cia and slandered thanks to cia. It is unfair that a man, who was probably complete normal is called a psychopath, serial murderer and his photoes are publiced by all possible bad events. You must try feelings of another people and think.

Colette Bembenek says:

Bundy wasn't any of those things, but rather, intrinsically evil. Plain and simple; he was an attorney amd edicated. He made a concious choice to commit atrocious cimes and his personal demons were there to help him along.

Norman Spurgeon says:

Regarding the "distractibility " of ADHD; how about the poor content and irrelevance of the school material?

Norman Spurgeon says:

Judging by the title, I think this fellow should have been a poet.

Karen M says:

It's easy. You just ask the person if they make those around them miserable and the answer is yes, then they have a personality disorder aka they are a bastard. No need for fancy language.

J J says:

Don't get me wrong..I enjoy these lectures from the Prof but when it came to Saddam Hussein & Gadaffi both being of psychopathic nature I had to disagree with him. Saddam..yes but I have looked into Gadaffi a little & did not find him to be a psycho. He aided his country n looked after his people, created his own currency & was used by a certain country to gain profit from his oil. His death was one of humiliation & brutality. I'm not a conspiracist, absolutely not…I just like to look into some things that seem one sided, (& I don't mean just watching a you tube video for clarification, I look into other sources online & weigh it up)!. After all, not everything we hear from the media is 100%…Fact.✌🧠

AlohaMilton says:

The insane society poisoning the environment thinks if your not perfectly happy about it your just nuts. Psychology is not a science its a cult to excuse greedy elitists putting the entire biosphere at risk. Originally formed to disparage women by creating BS about emotional nature of being female, like men have perfect control. now just accusing all of being 'not right' and needing to then pay to fix it. because everyone should be happy, they are sure that is the natural state of a human being. or at least its better for business 😛 Sick of the total BS that is western culture, everything is based in greed and never is it admitted.

Jacob Schaechtel says:

Avoid this video. Flaccid subliminals.

Janey Ann says:

I got as far as nine minutes in and got bored, he sounded like he wasn't going to explain anything.

Jason1975ism says:

a shoplifting chef? I wanted Ted an you give me a freaking shoplifting chef???

le th says:

It's rather concerning to closely observe this man's facial expressions and what he finds humorous. His smiles and laughs suggest he has a very warped sense of what is funny, and what appears to be a lack of empathy for others.

le th says:

Alien shape-shifting lizards? That sounds like psychopaths. I'd have to agree, the world is being run by a number of psychopaths.

Kamalpreet Singh says:

nic lecture…

Nicola Schoeman says:

Gah. Those little giggles after he describes something he doesn't like/agree with, are infuriating. This also seems to be a common argument between academics and practitioners – if an academic doesn't agree with something, then nobody can say otherwise. If I were to posit things like this chap, I might say he (and other academics) are extreme narcissists. Does that make it true? No. Does it change the fact that he's a jackass? No.

Žaneta Baršić-Schneider says:

A cure for a witch-like woman. Burn at stake, he says laughing. Realy? Is it supposed to be a joke?

Mary Reilly says:

He makes some good points but what's with his sporadic quasi misogynistic comments? Women love a good psycopath?

Gribbo9999 says:

Put a name to it so drugs and surgical procedures can be developed. Here's a name – "POTUS" . Surgical procedure sounds suitable. Dr Meuller has his knives ready.

Jaime Banks says:

The DSM V has been out for some time now so I recommend anyone curious about psychiatry to look at it rather than the DSM IV or DSM IV-R.

Sarah Homes says:

Ted Bundy also had a long peacock finger – This is indicative of high testosterone levels, a person who tends to take risks, will point the finger at others instead of first looking at themselves.
